This is the first in the study I did on the barn geese. I took the photographs at Strawbridge Lake in Moorestown, New Jersey, a place where I used to fish, canoe, picnic and learned very quickly how to turn when I was learning to ice skate as a child: there was a hole in the ice with a dead fish floating in it and I was headed straight for it. I can still hear my mother yelling at me,”Turn now!!! Turn!!! Turn!!!” I can still see that thing, bobbing up and down, staring at me with its one eye. I’m not quite sure why, but I still think of that every time I go down to that lake. I haven’t ice skated in years for other reasons, but I do Love to visit the geese, mallards and take a book down there with a blanket on a beautiful afternoon. Funny….. The stories we remember…..
